Somanur

SOMANUR
Somanur, is the small town situated 3 kilo meters off the NH-47, on the way to Avinashi from coimbatore. The exact route to somanur is from coimbatore city drive east on the National Highway No:47 toward salem. In 26-27 kms you will reach karumathampatti, take right and drive some 3 kilometers, you will reach somanur. You can also come from Tirupur either via Avinashi or Via Mangalam or along side the railway line.

Somanur is the textile hub with powerloom and sizing mills manufacture grey gada cloth and cotton sarees and dhotis. Powerloom and allied business are flourishing in somanur. I have been living here for about 30 years now. I know every nuke and corner of this small town, the people and their characteristics.

Somanur has its own busstand with town buses to coimbatore, Tirupur, Sulur, Pollachi, sathi, annur, avinashi, mettupalayam. Mini Autos are operated from karumathampatti to somanur and vice versa.

The newly created suzlon energy company near rayarpalayam has shifted momentum from somnur. The vast MNC company is involved in manufacturing Wind Mill equipments. The company is located in sprawling 400 acres of land (Special Economic Zone). This has created vast job opportunities to Engineers, ITI, Diploma, Accounts, Labors and construction and civil workers.

Ok. Come back to Somanur. Agriculture is the allied business in this town. A Market will assemble on every wednesday were people can buy and sell agri products like vegetables, fruits and poultry.

The town has banks city union bank, Union Bank of India and State Bank of Indian in nearby Samalapuram.

Schools are ARC Matriculation school and Kongu Vellalar Matric School in nearby Karumathampatti. Christian missionary schools for girls is also here. Government Higher secondary school is in nearby Samalapuram.

Railaway station is also available in this small town. You can get trains to tirupur or coimbatore.

What else? ok. Come to politics. AIADMK s Mahalingam has been the chairman of karumathampatti panchayat. Former chairman is Nithya Manoharan. This is all about somanur.
