Coconut Toddy - Farmers struggle
Four months ago coconut farmers of pollachi, coimbatore, palladam, tirupur, annur, mettupalayam started Toddy extraction from their coconut farms, which is unlawful and banned. 'TamilNadu Kal iyakkam' started the campaign of Toddy extraction and hundreds of coconut trees were used to produce thousands of liters of Toddy every day. This was sold at the rate of 30-50 rupees per liter. Due to the General Elections, the Government and police did not intervene. After the elections the Tamilnadu Government issued strict orders to coconut farmers. Police also making raids in coconut farms and destroy any toddy pot found. 'Kongunadu munnetra kalagam' also announced that they would stop Toddy extraction and wait for the Government decision.
